Everyone heads for that reset button after the ending of a year. It's almost like clockwork, well actually, it is. We tell ourselves we are going to embark on new adventures in the new year that will make our lives different. Drink less, go after our goals, and overall be a better person. Heck, we are all prime examples of this. Now that I'm getting a little older, I guess you could say my perspective has changed. Definitions of relationships, self-image, success, and work ethic have all transformed. Here are some themes I'm trying to get with this year.
Live Deliberately: Choose decisions that have purpose. Throw yourself 100% behind anything you decide. Be decisive, and don't look back at the what-if's.
Do More For Yourself: Focus on you. Do things for yourself, not for anyone else. Don't look to other people for acceptance. Hold yourself to standards, and strive for things you deserve.
Put Down Your Phone: Be present with the world, with yourself, and with the people you are with. Resist the urge to view your messages whilst having dinner with an old friend. Give yourself to the people you love, and don't ignore them while checking your Instagram as they tell you a story.
Be Patient: We live in a world where you can order something online and expect to receive it in 24 hours. Don't expect relationships to change, success to be reached, or to get your way in that same amount of time. Revel in the time it takes you to get anywhere, for those are the moments worth holding onto.
No matter what your goals are for the new year, I wish you all the best of luck with them, and I hope you spend more time doing whatever makes you happy. Our time is far too short to be wasted on the little things. Keep being nice, embracing your ideas, and I hope you immerse yourself in love and success. Here's to another one.
