I sometimes forget how fortunate I am to be here. Forgetting to be... present. After work this evening I hopped on the train to London to see an old friend, Joel. Little does he know, Joel has had such a great impact on my life. I've known Joel since we were fifteen. No, we are not close, or were we ever. But little does Joel know, the small time he spent in my life probably led me here, 7 years later, on a tube in London. We had dinner at Nando's and I met two of his classmates from medical school. Is it awful to admit I don't remember the name of his friends? I was just so excited to see where he is in life! Did I mention he's a doctor? He's going to make one lucky lady very happy one day.
We were in Stepney Green, at a local hip cinema joint called Genesis. La La Land was playing and I hadn't seen it yet, despite all the amazing reviews. The colours were great in the film. As the highly contrasted colours dulled, Mia and Seb grew up. The almost-fish-eyed wide angle shots kept me intrigued and reminded me why this was premiered at TIFF. The score was delightful, despite my internal struggle of accepting Ryan Gosling's dance abilities.
Just thought I wanted to document this evening, it was a lovely one at that.
